THE CANNIBAL'S SECOND PUZZLE

The preassumptions are just as detailed in "The Cannibal's Puzzle", but this time the three men are allowed to wander around and look at each other. Again it's only several minutes before the first man tries to guess the color of his feather... he is, of course, correct. How could he determine the color and what color was it?
